JULIA KIM is a Casting Director with a passion for unearthing new talent and finding chemistry that shines on-screen. The films she’s worked on have been honored at the Academy Awards, Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, Independent Spirit Awards, Cannes Film Festival and many others. Julia has served on Film Independent’s Nominating Committee multiple times, as well as the Short Film Jury of the LA Film Festival.

”BUTTERFLY”

AMAZON PRIME
Julia recently completed work on Season 1 of Daniel Dae Kim’s new series “Butterfly” for Amazon Prime. It’s the story of a former US intelligence operative pursued by a deadly agent in the graphic novel adaptation. The series is shot in South Korea and features both Korean and English dialogue.

“Sunny” follows Suzie, an American woman living in Japan, and Sunny, a domestic robot made by her husband’s company, as they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s husband and son who disappeared in a mysterious plane crash. The cast stars Rashida Jones, Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ongg, Annie the Clumsy and Jun Kunimura.

“Expats” is a look at the personal and professional lives of a tight-knit group of expatriates living in Hong Kong. The cast stars Nicole Kidman, Sarayu Blye, Ji-young Yoo, Brian Tee and Jackie Houston.

Contributed to this much awaited “KPop animated feature about a musical action adventure that follows the story of a world-renowned K-Pop girl group, as they balance their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as bad-ass demon hunters, set against a colorful backdrop of fashion, food, style and the most popular music movement of this generation.

“MINARI” was directed by Lee Isaac Chung. The cast stars Steven Yeun, Yeri Han, Yuh-Jung Youn, Will Patton, Alan Kim and Noel Kate Cho. It won both the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and Audiences Award at the 2020 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL. It was also nominated for six ACADEMY AWARDS (1 win), six British Academy Awards – BAFTAs (1 win), three SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS (1 win), ten CRITIC’S CHOICE AWARDS (2 wins) and six INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS (1 win). It also won the ARTIOS AWARD from the Casting Society of America and a GOLDEN GLOBE for Best Foreign Language Film.

”Spa NIGHT”

“SPA NIGHT” premiered at the 2016 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL. Joe Seo won the  U.S. DRAMATIC SPECIAL JURY AWARD: BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE. The film was also awarded the JOHN CASSAVETES AWARD for best ensemble cast at the 2017 INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS.

“SIDEWAYS”, “OBA THE LAST SAMURAI” (Japan) and “MY BOLLYWOOD BRIDE” (India) were international productions that needed recognizable Hollywood actors to help make their casts more attractive to audiences. “AMERICANESE” won a SPECIAL JURY AWARD for OUTSTANDING ENSEMBLE CAST at the SXSW FILM FESTIVAL.
